Adhesive Types

PVAc, Hot Melt, VAE, Acrylic, PUD, PVOH, Starch, Casein

PVAc

(Polyvinyl Acetate)

Scitech offer a full range of PVAc homopolymer emulsion adhesives and coatings for paper packaging, converting, woodworking and for paper and fabric coating applications.

Products can be formulated to give the required application and end use performance e.g. fast setting, slow setting, high tack, excellent machining, good heat resistance, non-blocking and easiclean to name but a few.

This polymer type being the most basic vinyl type adhesive offers high performance but is still cost effective.

Hot Melt

A range of traditional hot melt adhesives is available for packaging and converting applications including a number of low application temperature products. All our products have excellent thermal stability and are suited to application by wheel, jet and dauber. A range of peelable pressure sensitive products is also available for mailer and continuous stationery applications. Specific products are also available for plastic packaging.

VAE

(Vinyl Acetate/Ethylene Copolymers)

Offering all the properties associated with PVAc but with improved adhesion, flexibility and end use stability.

Adhesion to inked, varnished, film laminated and metallic surfaces is excellent and end use applications such as deep freeze resistance are greatly improved over PVAc products. VAE’s have particularly good wet tack compared to other copolymers.

Acrylic

Both hard acrylics for paper and fabric coating and soft acrylics for tape and labelling applications are available.

The film properties of these polymers can be varied to suit end use requirements.

Acrylics have excellent film forming and adhesion properties. There are a vast range of products available to suit most applications.

PUD

(Polyurethane Dispersions)

The unique film properties of PUD offer end use properties which other systems cannot match e.g. adhesion and bond strength to filmic materials such as PE, OPP and acetate.

PVOH

(Polyvinyl Alcohol)

Solutions of polyvinyl alcohol offer an ideal adhesive or coating binder which can be formulated by the addition of polyvinyl acetate or fillers to achieve the most cost effective polymer system.

Alternatively polyvinyl alcohol solution can be used as a raw material for compounding of PVAc and VAE polymers. Polyvinyl alcohol has a unique property of high wet tack and can be formulated to give water resistance or water washability depending on the grades used.

Starch & Dextrin

Traditional natural adhesives that offer unique properties which synthetic polymer systems cannot. The naturally occurring starch molecule allows paste type consistencies whilst the lower molecular weight dextrin systems offer high solids, more fluid viscosity for more sophisticated application systems and high wet tack.

Casein

A naturally occurring polymer made from milk and offering a range of products from adhesives and coatings to binders and water proofing agents.
